Philadelphia, PA – On Saturday, February 1, Morgan Cephas announced her re-election at a petition party slash campaign kick-off event at Mingle in West Philadelphia. Cephas, the incumbent for the PA House 192nd District, is seeking her 3rd re-election -- she was first elected in 2016. The 192nd District encompasses the Overbrook, Wynnefield, Haddington and Overbrook Farms neighborhoods of West Philadelphia.
“I’m not stopping now,” says Cephas. “It's a crucial time for the 192nd and for the Commonwealth. We must keep moving and building on the work we’ve already done!”Since taking office, Morgan has successfully connected local organizations to over $3 million in resources, to revitalize the District. “Secure housing, access to education, equitable health, and safety, remain priorities this time around.”
In Harrisburg, Cephas sits on a number of committees including Appropriations, to which she was appointed just last year. Other committees include Agriculture & Rural Affairs and Labor & Industry. Cephas is a member of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus where she serves as Chairwoman for the sub-committee on Women & Girls of Color; the Philadelphia County Delegation; and the Women’s Health Committee where she serves as vice-chair. She has introduced a number of legislative packages this session, mostly noted for her women’s health agenda including maternal mortality and dignity for incarcerated women.
Family, friends, neighbors and constituents joined Cephas on Saturday, ending the afternoon knocking doors in the District. State Representative Jordan Harris, Democratic Whip; State Representative Jason Dawkins, Chair of the Philadelphia Delegation; and State Representative Ryan Boyle were all in attendance. Local electeds, also filled the room including, Congressman Dwight Evans, 3rd District Councilmember Curtis Jones Jr., newly elected City Councilmembers, Jamie Gauthier, Kathryn Gilmore Richardson and Isaiah Thomas and City Commissioner Omar Sabir.
Cephas supporters agree, “She’s a consistent, committed, changemaker, and we’re here to support her because she’s here to support the District!”
